Field Trips

To enhance and build upon the curriculum, Carden Conejo students participate in age appropriate Field Trips to museums, art & music events and local attractions.

Examples of Field Trips by Grade*:

  • Kindergarten - Chinese Acrobat performance at the Civic Arts Plaza
  • 1st Grade - Santa Barbara Zoo
  • 2nd Grade - Trip to Anacapa Island to observe the habitat of nesting sea gulls, brown pelicans, and sea lions.
  • 3rd Grade - La Brea Tar Pits, to accompany their study of prehistoric man;  Bianchi Planetarium at CSUN to enhance their study of Astronomy; Chumash Indian Museum, to enhance their study of Native Americans.
  • 4th Grade - Two-day trip to Sacramento and gold rush country. The students pan for gold and camp overnight near the American River, where gold was first discovered. They learn about life during the time of the California Gold Rush. They also visit the state Capitol building, tour Old Sacramento, and visit the historic railroad museum.
  • 5th Grade - Two-day trip to Dana Point where students spend the night on the tall ship the "Pilgrim." They experience the life of a sailor in the 1830s; swabbing the decks, keeping night watch and sleeping in berths below deck. They faithfully re-enact the indentured service of Richard Henry Dana that they study in Two Years Before the Mast.
